What do we want ?

African Americans, in North Charleston, want the opportunity to participate in government without voter suppression, municipal underbounding, and retribution. The African American community wants equal opportunity in acquiring jobs, the opportunity to work for more than pittance wages, freedom to acquire contracts on a fair basis as others, quality education, city resources apportioned fairly, justice in the Municipal Court System, to live free from targeted police brutality, and a true opportunity to pursue life, liberty and happiness on the same terms as all other American Citizens in North Charleston.

Recently, the city of North Charleston rose to #3 in the nation for homicides above major cities such as Chicago, Atlanta, and Memphis. While crime in North Charleston is at unbearable levels, the crime is not in all neighborhoods. Crime, in North Charleston, is contained in the African American communities by strategic design. North Charleston’s own reports show that over the years, the highest crime rates coincide with the areas the city has denied jobs, contracts, quality education, community resources, and justice. These areas have, without exception, been the African American neighborhoods; 50% of the population, but only 20% of the $66 million dollar payroll budget, 50% of the population, but only 3% of the contracts assigned, 50% of the population, but near 0% of the special projects. North Charleston is approaching $75 million in direct economic denial to the African American community. This amounts to over $1 billion in total economic impact every mayoral term being denied to North Charleston’s African American community, all under the control of the city’s mayor. In the wake of such an onslaught of economic executions, social scourging, political ploys, education impotence, and brutal disparities of skullduggery like treatment, against the African American community, the record reflects the present mayor’s arrogant responsive words to the community to be “You know the devil I am”, “Nothing is going to change” and “If you don’t like it, then vote me out”. Surely by now you should know who must not receive your vote.

The City of Charleston was recently voted #1 in the entire nation for the gentrification of its African American Community. North Charleston is following the same identical pattern that led to the City of Charleston’s gentrification. Department of Justice documents confirm North Charleston’s strategic plan to dilute the vote and population of its African American community. The City of North Charleston is in phase 4 of a 5 phase master plan to gentrify its city. Municipal Underbounding, exclusionary zoning, annexation, denial of jobs, contracts, community resources, and doughnut holes all play a pivotal role in the plan to gentrify North Charleston, South Carolina’s largest African American community.

African Americans in North Charleston must replace its present mayor with the right candidate. Understanding the issues of this city, in this brochure, and “power voting” are critical to success. John Singletary is the candidate who has informed the African American Community and understands the issues.
